WELCOME!
If you are here, you may be searching, or perhaps just curious. We are passionate about our community and excited that you are here!
The Brothers and Sisters of Charity at Little Portion Hermitage is an exciting new integrated monastic community raised up by the Holy Spirit in Catholic Church in this era. Guided by truth which comes to us from God through the Church, our primary charism is love guided by truth that comes to us from God through the Church. Founded by John Michael and Viola Talbot and birthed by the Holy Spirit in the Franciscan tradition as a child that is unique and new, our community integrates spiritualities, types of monastic life, and states of life in one communal whole. Our way of life:
- includes all venerable monastic traditions,
- integrates charismatic and contemplative, liturgical and spontaneous, solitary and communal prayer,
- provides for life in solitude and community,
- offers contemplative community and apostolic action,
- and embraces various lay and clerical states of life according to their own statutes and needs in one community.
Unique as the only community of its kind in North America founded by North Americans, ours is a common pattern for new consecration of life communities around the world that includes people in all states of life professing poverty, chastity, and obedience in a way proper to their state of life. The Holy Spirit has worked mightily through us in various ways in our nearly 50-year history, and we invite you to be part of the next 50 years!
